May I make changes
to these offer letters?

You may make nonsubstantive changes to these standard offer letters to fit particular employment situations or procedures in your department. However, substantive changes must be reviewed by the Office of General Counsel.

Some examples of nonsubstantive changes

  • You may change the way you state the effective starting date of employment to suit your particular situation. In some cases, this could be an anticipated date that may vary based on fairly large factors (finishing a degree, relocating, or obtaining a visa). In other cases, it may be a condition of employment that the job candidate begins work on a certain date.

  • New staff employees are required to attend orientation within their first three weeks of employment. The standard offer letters state this requirement. However, if you have already scheduled an orientation session for the candidate, you may instead provide that information in the offer letter.
